Three security personnel have been killed after a bomb explosion hit Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan Province, Press TV reports.

The forces of the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary were killed on Friday after an explosive-laden motorcycle detonated in Quetta's Saryab Road.

Eleven people, including a woman, were wounded in the explosion, and had to be rushed to a local hospital for treatment, officials said.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area while an investigation was launched into the incident.

Thousands of Pakistani Security Personnel have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Islamabad joined an alliance with Washington in the so-called war on terror.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands of people have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.
